Liam Payne shared one child with his former partner, British singer and television personality Cheryl Cole, whose legal name is Cheryl Ann Tweedy. The couple welcomed their son, Bear Payne, in March 2017. Now 9 years old, Bear is expected to inherit his father’s entire estate under U.K. intestacy laws once he reaches adulthood.
Although Cole is not expected to inherit any portion of Payne’s estate herself, she petitioned the court for Letters of Administration following his death because Bear is the estate’s sole beneficiary.
As Bear’s mother and legal guardian, Cole now serves as one of the estate’s administrators, overseeing his inheritance until he becomes an adult. While she cannot make unilateral decisions regarding the estate or use its assets for her own benefit, U.K. law generally permits trust funds to be used for Bear’s maintenance, education, and overall welfare while he is still a minor.
