Vella Group Gains Planning Commission Approval for .4B MXU in DTLA

Vella Group has secured Los Angeles City Planning Commission approval for its 670 Mesquit project, a 1.8-million-square-foot, $1.4-billion mixed-use development. The Planning Commission nod comes eight years after the developer first proposed redeveloping a cold storage facility in Downtown LA’s Arts District.

L.A. Business First reported that the Bjarke Ingels-designed project will include nearly 676,000 square feet of creative office space, a 270-key hotel, 800 apartment units, a dining area, a grocery store, a 34,000-square-foot gym and 14,340 square feet of retail. The development will also add nearly 28,700 square feet of restaurants to the area, along with studio/event space and a potential museum totaling up to 35,515 square feet.

670 Mesquit would cover approximately 5.5 acres along the west side of the Los Angeles River. Following the Planning Commission’s approval, the project moves to the City Council. Groundbreaking could occur as early as next year.
