Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Will Wed in New York City, Mayor Mamdani Confirms

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has confirmed that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are going to say “I do” in the Big Apple—revealing that the highly anticipated wedding will take place before the FIFA World Cup draws to an end on July 19.

Mamdani, 34, who was sworn in as mayor of New York City on Jan. 1, 2026, let slip the information during a press conference in which he addressed the NYPD’s ability to keep New Yorkers safe during large events, particularly when so many big-ticket occasions are taking place at the same time.

Speaking specifically about the World Cup, which is being hosted by 16 cities across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico—with the final set to take place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey—Mamdani noted that New York is more than equipped to handle the pressures associated with such a large-scale event, even when it coincides with Swift and Kelce’s nuptials.

“We are used to big events, and we are incredibly excited for [the FIFA World Cup],” he said. “We know it coincides with the Knicks’ [NBA] Finals run. We know it coincides with July 4, America 250, Taylor Swift’s wedding—all happening at the same time—and we are so excited to welcome the world here.”

His comments will no doubt reignite furious speculation that Swift and Kelce, both 36, are due to wed in a dramatic ceremony at the iconic Madison Square Garden on July 3—following early reports that they were planning to tie the knot in Rhode Island.

However, while Mamdani voiced his excitement at helping to prepare the city for such a major celebrity event, he confessed that he will not actually be in attendance, admitting that he hasn’t received an invite—while wishing Swift and Kelce a “lovely wedding.”

Focus has only recently turned to New York as the suspected host city for the couple’s wedding after months of speculation that the duo had nailed down a wedding venue near the pop star’s stunning vacation home in Westerly, RI.

In April, Page Six reported that Swift and Kelce are planning to wed in New York—where the singer also owns a home—claiming that their “save the date” not only lists the Big Apple as their location of choice, but also notes that they will tie the knot on July 3.

Previous reports had suggested that Swift and Kelce’s wedding would take place on June 13 in a nod to the “Bad Blood” singer’s lucky number.

If the latest reports are true, the A-list couple will join a long line of celebrities who have wed in New York City, where Swift has owned property for more than a decade.

In 2014, she snapped up two penthouses in the chic Tribeca neighborhood for about $20 million and combined them into a nine-bedroom, nine-bath abode with beamed ceilings, a curved staircase, and enormous windows.

She purchased a third unit in the building a few years later for $9.75 million, increasing her Tribeca takeover by over 3,500 square feet.

Then, in 2017, the pop star splurged on an adjacent townhouse, paying $18 million for the three-story mansion measuring 5,000 square feet.

While her Tribeca pad was undergoing renovation, she resided in a West Village townhouse, which she reportedly paid $38,000 a month to live in from 2016 until 2017.

If they choose to hold their ceremony in Manhattan, Swift would have ample space to house herself, Kelce, and several of their guests should she need to.

The couple’s latest suggested wedding date, July 3, would also see them extending their celebrations over the Fourth of July weekend, a holiday that Swift is known for being a big fan of. Ironically, she has traditionally thrown her Independence Day celebrations at her Rhode Island home, where she has hosted everyone from Gigi Hadid and Blake Lively to Patrick Mahomes and Jason Kelce.

The latest reports about the couple’s hotly anticipated wedding are in sharp contrast to the previous rumors about their nuptials—which indicated that they were going to tie the knot at the storied Ocean House resort, just a few minutes’ walk from the singer’s vacation home.

However, celebrity event planner Tara Guerard recently shut down those rumors in an Instagram comment, claiming that, while she is preparing for a wedding to take place at the Rhode Island hotel on June 13, it does not involve Swift or Kelce.

Fans have been clamoring for more information about Swift and Kelce’s wedding plans ever since the happy couple announced their engagement at the end of August—with many so-called insiders quickly reporting that the duo were planning for a Rhode Island ceremony.

It was even claimed by several social media users that Swift and Kelce had paid another engaged couple to give up their June 13 booking at a different local venue, known as The Breakers, which is located just a few miles away from Ocean House.

“An East Coast woman was planning on getting married somewhere this coming summer, right?” podcast host Fiona Shea recounted in a video.

“She was reached out to by the establishment where she’s having her wedding, and they said, ‘Hey, would you be willing to actually change the date of your wedding?’

“She said, ‘F–k no.’ And they said, ‘This client is willing to pay for your wedding and honeymoon if you change the date of your wedding, because she needs this.’ And this is allegedly Taylor Swift.”

Neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly commented on their wedding plans.

In March, ESPN’s Nate Taylor alleged that Kelce and Swift were going to tie the knot “before” the start of the Kansas City Chiefs‘ training camp, which will likely kick off in mid to late July.

Although the Kansas City team has yet to reveal its training camp dates, last year’s training camp began on July 22.

Taylor made the claim soon after Kelce announced his plans to return to the NFL team for another year, having been dogged by rumors of retirement for months in the lead-up to the end of the 2025 season.

During an appearance on Pat McAfee‘s eponymous talk show, Kelce opened up about what motivated him to sign with the Chiefs for another year, admitting that he had been considering retirement but felt he needed to “take a step back” before making his choice.

He then praised Swift for helping give him the motivation he needed to return to the NFL.
