Mars Wrigley Taps Developer for Candy Factory Redevelopment

Mars Wrigley has selected Chicago-based McCaffery Interests Inc. to reconstruct the candy maker’s historic factory site in the Galewood neighborhood.

McCaffery Interests Inc. will work with local community groups to develop plans for the 20-acre site on the city’s northwest side, reported the Chicago Tribune. Mars Wrigley plans to close operations there this year and move its manufacturing to other U.S. locations. A company spokesperson said the redevelopment process would be conditional on the city’s rezoning process and on “continued engagement with the local community.”

Located at 2019 N. Oak Park Ave., the landmark Spanish Colonial Revival building is nearly a century old. The U.S. headquarters for Mars Wrigley moved to New Jersey in 2017, following Mars’ $23 billion acquisition of Wrigley in 2008. The Mars Wrigley global headquarters are located on Goose Island in Chicago.
